Background

Amadori is one of the leading companies in the Italian agro-food sector for meat-based dishes. The Amadori story starts in the 1930s. Overtime, the Group, founded as a poultry firm, became a full-fledged Italian food company. Between the 1980’s and 1990’s an important production unit took shape in Teramo for feed mills, hatcheries, processing plant a bread production.

Challenges

Amadori S.p.A already had a WWTP, but because of the necessity for increasing production, the company also wanted to reduce disposal costs, such as primary sludge treatment. The challenge was to build and activate the plant during the normal operation of the existing plant and of the slaughterhouse.

Solution

Waste-to-EnergyTo address these needs effectively, a restructuring of the existing WWTP with the insertion of an anaerobic digestion and nitrification/denitrification system was designed, built, and commissioned in 2008 by RWL Water of Italy.

System Description

  • Effluents: poultry slaughterhouse wastewater and breading waste.
  • Capacity: 3.150 m³/day
  • Pre-treatment by DAF system
  • Anaerobic digestion with biogas production which can be converted into electric and thermic energy by a cogenerator.
  • Dehydration of primary sludge through belt filter press.
  • Nitro-denitro system
  • Final clarification
