Proven Seawater Reverse Osmosis and Desalination Technologies in One Container

Nirobox™ SW incorporates the best available technologies from RWL Water’s comprehensive portfolio of treatment solutions to create the ultimate compact seawater desalination solution.

Equipped with the most efficient high-pressure pumps and ERD systems, each Nirobox™ SW unit uses three process stages for seawater desalination:

  • Disc filtration
  • Ultrafiltration
  • Reverse osmosis with an energy recovery device

Nirobox™ SW uses only high-quality components — from industry-leading suppliers such as Danfoss, Dow, and Siemens — installed in a 40-foot high-cube ISO container, insulated and air-conditioned.

Pretreatment

  • Hydrogen chloride (HCl) and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) dosing systems

Desalination

Nirobox™ SW is designed to operate within a wide range of seawater parameters:

  • Turbidity up to 20 NTU
  • Oil and grease up to 1.5 ppm
  • Total dissolved solids (TDS) up to 42,000 ppm
  • Seawater temperature from 5 to 35° C (41 to 95° F)

Different production capacity requirements can be accommodated by providing an optimum combination of Nirobox™ products.

Up to five modules can be operated in parallel to obtain production as large as 1.32 Million Gallons per Day (MGPD) (5,000 m3/d).

Nirobox™ SW Consumes Less Resources

Compared to conventional seawater desalination plants, with Nirobox™:

  • Power consumption is 70% less than in desalination plants without an energy recovery device (ERD) and 20% less than in plants with less efficient ERD systems.
  • Nirobox™ does not require cartridge filters due to its disc filter and direct feed of ultrafiltration (UF) filtrate to the reverse osmosis (RO) section.
  • Nirobox™ has lower chemical consumption due to its exclusive UF membrane cleaning systems, which inhibit microorganism growth by the use of osmotic differential potential, providing a natural disinfecting effect.
  • The RO membranes have a longer life cycle, due to the Nirobox™’s robust pretreatment.

  • Feed water temperature from 10 to 30° C (50 to 86° F)

Maximum production capacity will depend on the raw water’s technical features, and additional pretreatment can be supplied to treat water out of this range.

Producing Potable and Ultrapure Water

Desalinated water from the Nirobox™ basic unit can be used immediately for industrial processes, and optional equipment can be added to the Nirobox™ unit depending on the final use of the treated water. This includes post-treatments such as:

  • Chlorination and remineralization, which can make the Nirobox™ suitable for drinking water.
  • Permeate polishing for demineralization by second-pass reverse osmosis and continuous electrodeionization (CEDI), which can treat the water to ultrapure levels. Ultrapure water is needed for many industrial processes, including steam turbine operation and boiler feed.
