Tipton tertiary filtration systems use an advanced wastewater treatment process called rapid sand filtration to polish the effluent discharged from secondary treatment systems, removing a high percentage of filterable BOD5 and suspended solids with mixed media filters.
The systems feature a compact design and PLC-controlled automatic air wash and backwash control systems. They are easy to install and simple to operate, and their quality components make them ideal for retrofitting.
Tertiary wastewater treatment systems are most often used in conjunction with secondary treatment systems when stringent effluent quality limits must be met.
Easy Installation and Automatic Operation
The Tipton tertiary filtration system is a prefabricated, factory-built unit ready for easy installation at your project site. The main components of the filter system are:
- Tertiary filter cells
- Clear well chamber
- Backwash pumps
- Mud well chamber with pump
- Automatic electrical controls
The tertiary filter unit is designed for automatic operation. When solids are discharged from the secondary treatment system, they enter one of the filter cells. When collected solids reach a designated level, the automatic control system air-scours the filter cell, causing the collected solids to rise to the top level of the filter media. The filtering process continues until the concentration is high enough to cause a backwash cycle.
Once solids reach a concentration level too great for filtration, the automatic control system activates the backwash pumps to water-wash the filter media. The dirty water is dumped into the mud well chamber and recycled back to the secondary treatment system. Once the wash cycle is complete, the filter is returned online.
